Podcasting is essentially pre-recorded radio (mp3 files - like music) that you can download and listen to whenever you want. The great thing about Podcasts is that there are free & easy programs that allow you to subscribe to a podcast and whenever a new program is released it automatically downloads it for you.

Personally I subscribe to several geek podcasts and listen to them on long commutes or with an MP3 player (you don't need an iPod) on my bike.
